There should be a defined setting for 5.1 headsets. I'm sure CMSS is designed for stereo headsets, but cmon creative. BTW, I shut off CMSS 3d and this headset "exploded" with clarity and the sound cues went from shitty to amazing. I've messed with this a bit and it doesn't seem to make that big of a difference. Anyone have the physical dial settings for this headset? Mine is on 10-bass, 8 surround, 7 center, and 7 1/2 front channel. I'm really not impressed with this $130 card so far. I've jacked up the volume and turned mic boost on but meh, whatever. Entertainment mode does not seem to be designed for mic optimization, so I'm very quiet in this mode. Not sure why creative designed this version of the card that way, but it sucks. Honestly the only true way to get bass boost out of this card is to leave it in "entertainment" mode.
